Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-centered, peer review process that is designed to certify the quality of online and blended courses. QM is a leader in quality assurance for online education and has received national recognition for its peer-based approach and continuous improvement in online education and student learning. QM subscribers include community and technical colleges, colleges and universities, K-12 schools and systems and other academic institutions. Ohio institutions of higher education were early adopters of this quality framework. As a result, Ohio has the largest number of trained faculty in the QM rubric for Higher Education.
Roughly 30 percent of higher education students engage in digital learning as compared with about 3-4 percent at the K-12 level. However, K-12 levels are projected to grow exponentially due to student demand in the next 5-7 years. With the release of the QM 6-12 rubric, Ohio is positioned to engage K-12 educators in learning how to use the rubric to ensure quality online and blended learning with their students and to support alignment as students make transitions to post-secondary environments.
